Equal access to all PAUSD Choice Programs is provided by application and enrollment using a random drawing, or lottery, for kindergartners. Parental commitment - demonstrated by attending an Open House, an orientation meeting, and submitting an application - is required prior to entry in the lottery, to ensure parents are making an informed choice. A prospective student must live within the boundaries of the PAUSD and be registered in the district during Round 1 Registration.

Inclusion in the kindergarten lottery is by application only. After completing the district registration process, mark your calendar to attend the Parent Information Night and take a tour, after which an application will be provided to you. Make sure to submit the application by the deadline.

Parent Information Nights and Tour dates are as follows:

  • 1/15 (Wed) - Open House
  • 1/21 (Tues) - Hoover Info Night  6pm - 7pm
  • 2/6 (Thurs) -  Open House
  • 2/12 (Wed) - Hoover Info Night  6pm - 7pm

 Application provided at tour.

Lottery drawings to create kindergarten classes at each school are held in the spring at the District Office. Parents whose children’s names are drawn during the initial drawing have 48 hours in which to accept or decline the space. If the space is declined, the child’s name will be removed from the list.

Parents whose children’s names are not selected during the initial kindergarten lottery shall be placed on a waiting list. Should a seat become available, waitlisted parents will be notified about the available space and will have 48 hours in which to accept or decline the space. If the seat is declined, the child’s name will be removed from the list.

All kindergarten students on the waiting list at the end of the year, shall maintain their spot on the waitlist when they move to the next grade level through third grade. After third grade, parents will need to reapply to indicate continued interest in the school.

Parents of students in grades 1-5 may apply at any time to have their child’s name added to the waitlist for that particular grade. Should a seat become available, waitlisted parents will be notified about the available space and will have 48 hours in which to accept or decline the space. If the seat is declined, the child’s name will be removed form the list.
